He has taught in mainstream Secondary Schools, Special Education Establishments and a College of Further Education.

Having been Head Teacher of two Pupil Referral Units and manager of two Behaviour Support Services, he has held senior management positions for many years, during which he guided Birmingham LEA Behaviour Support Service through a successful Ofsted.

John has worked with Senior Management Teams, Teachers, Support and Ancillary Staff, Multi-Agency teams and Services and has successfully delivered team building and conflict resolution strategies outside of the statutory education sector.

He has provided personal safety training to Behaviour Support Service Staff, Class Teachers and Support staff, Education Social Workers and Education Psychologists; he is an Associate of the International Society for Research on Aggression.

John has addressed local, regional and national conferences and training events: he has contributed to radio and television programmes where pupil behaviour, parenting and exclusion have been discussed and continues to mentor individual pupils whose behaviour is giving cause for concern. He believes passionately that by working together, support agencies, parents and teachers who are confident, compassionate, can make massive improvements to the prospects of our children and therefore our collective future.
